I really like tree because you can climb them and they can attract lovely birds.
I would like to go see Tana Mahuta because I want to see the shape of it and what birds live on it.I might go visit it in the Holidays  because I go up north every summer.

  1. Hey Lucas,

It looks like you have been busy completing Summer Learning Journey activities. I am excited to see the rest of your journey this summer.

I agree with you, I would love to visit Tane Mahura to see how tall and wide the tree is. I am sure it is home to many beautiful birds and animals. I could imagine thatyou would find some kereru's high up in the branches. What kind of birds would youe expect to see up there?

I read on the Department of Conservation website that according to Maori legends, Tane Mahuta is known as the son of Papatuanuku (the earth mother) and Ranginui (the sky father). This is why the beautiful tree is so tall because it is reaching up to his father.

Let me know if you do visit Tane Mahuta this summer. I would love to here about your visit and what birds you can see. Maybe you could find out about the Kauri dieback disease that could potentially affect Tane Mahuta in the near future. I would love to hear about the things you learn when you visit this legendary tree.

    Keep up the awesome work,
    Megan :)
